Hello and welcome, my name is Steve Woody and in this short video, I’m going to show you the 3 mistakes most business owners are making with their website.
This is specifically helpful if you have a website and sell either a product or a service.
I’ll be hosting a webinar on Tuesday evening at 7pm GMT which will take you through the mistakes in much more detail and I’ll also talk about the solutions. You can register using the link at the bottom of this page
But for now, let’s just straight into the 3 Main problems so you know what they are.
Mistake 1 – Not having a compelling headline.
This may seem obvious but you would be amazed just how many people have no way of introducing a new visitor to their website. It’s very common for someone to visit a website and be left to fend for themselves, clicking and scrolling and often care and attention is not taken into letting the visitor know they are in the right place.
A simple headline that confirms with the viewer that they are in the right place is all you need and there are several ways to achieve this. As I mentioned before, I’ll go through all the details with you on the webinar. Let’s just say that for the headline you really want to attract the creative right brain thinkers and with the subtitle you want to make it more descriptive for those left brain logical thinkers.
Mistake 2 – Not having an obvious call to action.
Let’s just take a moment and understand that a website is nothing more than a collection of web pages and each page should have a specific outcome, it’s your duty to ensure that the visitor knows where they are and where they should go next. Ideally, each page will have one specific outcome and you will have obvious buttons which take them in this direction.
It could be a sign-up form, to a questionnaire, to a checkout or to another page. The outcome is not important here as much as knowing how to get there. I can’t believe how many people hide links and buttons making the visitor search, almost like a quest where only the most determined or stubborn will progress.
Mistake 3 – Not tracking visitor data
This really is a no-brainer. Google Analytics is FREE, there is no reason why every single website should not be running this software as a way to track the activities of people who visit your website and what they do once they are there. The only way you can know if your marketing is successful is to track where people come from, what they do on your site and if they convert into members / subscribers or customers.
On the webinar I’ll talk about this in more depth, show you some examples and also explain about another tracking I include on my website to record mouse activity and other cool things that help you to understand your visitors better.
Take this opportunity to look at your own website, see if you are making these three mistakes anywhere and post a link in the comments below. I would love to take a look. If you have a before and after picture that would be awesome because there is nothing better than watching someone take action.
So here’s to your Online Success,
Have a great day and I’ll talk to you soon.
