I am often asked by clients and friends what they can do to protect their website from attacks, downtime and things that would affect both sales and reputation.

Whilst it’s important to ensure that you have a strong infastructure in place to manage your online presence its also very important to monitor your sites to ensure that they are online.

There are two systems that I highly recommend to monitor your website

The first is called Pingdom

These guys are behind the awesome site speed checker and what most people don’t realise is that they also provide real time user monitoring and SMS alerts if your website is unobtainable.

The second is called MXToolbox and is a fantastic system to monitor your website and email addresses against the worlds spam databases. If you get blacklisted by anyone on this list then chances are Google will show the dreaded warning message when people try to visit and emails could well bounce or end up in the spam folder more than you would like.
